On July 10th at 12h00, CENIMAT|i3N will have the pleasure of welcoming Professor Nazario Martín, Full Professor at the University Complutense of Madrid and Vice-Director of the IMDEA Nanoscience Institute.
 
Professor Martín is one of the most prominent researchers in the field of molecular and supramolecular chemistry of carbon nanostructures, with over 640 peer-reviewed publications and numerous prestigious awards, including the Alexander von Humboldt Award, the Richard E. Smalley Award, and, most recently, the 2025 Spanish National Nanotechnology Award.
 
Professor Martín will deliver a seminar entitled «Molecular Nanographenes for Organic Electronics», where some recent and amazing NGs stemming from his research group will be presented and discussed.

We are pleased to host Prof. Catarina Pinto Reis, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon, and researcher at IBEB (FCUL), for the 11th edition of NANOMAT-Talks. Her talk will explore the use of gold nanoparticles in photothermal cancer therapy, highlighting their unique properties, targeting capabilities, and potential to improve precision and effectiveness in oncological treatments. It was a real pleasure to welcome Malgorzata Szczerska, leader of PhoBioS - COST Action CA21159, and her PhD student Patryk Sokołowski, to CENIMAT|i3N during their visit to Portugal!
 
Professor Pedro Almeida and Researcher Ana Almeida, members of the SBMG group, had the opportunity to show them around our research infrastructure and share some of the exciting work being done in the field of photonics and biomimetic materials. It was a great time to exchange ideas, explore ongoing research and discuss future collaborations within the PhoBioS network.

Professor Rodrigo Martins was present as a roundtable participant in the Plenary Session of the 2025 World Digital Education Conference.

On May 15th (morning), Prof. Rodrigo Martins shared his perspectives and engaged in discussion with fellow participants about High-Level Dialogue on Digital Education, contributing with his vision to a global discussion on the future of learning in the age of intelligence.

In the afternoon, Professor Rodrigo presented a plenary lecture titled: "Advanced Emerging Materials for Electronics and Energy Application", at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Life Sciences of the Wuhan University of Technology, sharing pioneering research from CENIMAT|i3N with an international audience.

Professor Rodrigo's attendance in the conference was also reported by China Central Television.

We are proud to announce the approval of the Glaze Project, an ambitious, interdisciplinary initiative that bridges science, art history, and digital innovation. Led by Professor João Pedro Veiga as Principal Investigator, the project brings together the combined expertise of CENIMAT|i3N, VICARTE and NOVA LINCS at NOVA University and the HERCULES Laboratory at the University of Évora, in partnership with the prestigious Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Over the next three years, Glaze will investigate the history of Ottoman ceramics, with a focus on the vibrant colour transitions and advanced manufacturing techniques that defined the iconic Iznik tile tradition. Leveraging the renowned collection of the Gulbenkian Museum, the project will employ cutting-edge, non-invasive scientific techniques to study the material and chromatic composition of this ceramic tradition.

Yesterday, at 6pm, at the Cupra City Garage in Lisbon, Professor Elvira Fortunato was once again recognised as one of Portugal's 50 Most Influential Women, in a distinction promoted by Executiva.pt.

In 10 editions of this initiative, this is the 10th time that Professor Elvira Fortunato has received the honourable distinction, which celebrates the talent, leadership and capacity for achievement of women who inspire and make a difference in Portugal.

The kick-off meeting of POEMS – the Portuguese Competence Centre in Semiconductors took place yesterday in Braga, marking the official start of this initiative. We are proud to share that i3N is part of the consortium composed by 16 partners, including leading research and academic institutions.
During the session, the partners presented the contributions they will bring to this four-year project, highlighting the collaborative effort behind POEMS.
POEMS, co-funded by FCT and the Chips Joint Undertaking, is part of a broader European network of Competence Centres. The initiative reinforces Europe’s ambition to lead globally in semiconductor training, research, development, and manufacturing.
