SHORT CV

Pedro Marques de Almeida is an Associate Professor w/ Habilitation in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Lisbon Superior Institute of Engineering (ISEL), where he is currently the Coordinating Professor of the Department Section of Mechanical Project, Production and Industrial maintenance. He is responsible for curricular units in the scientific area of mechanical technology and materials, such as Mechanics of Materials, Materials Science, Technical Mechanics or Composite Materials.

Before having the current position, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (2001-2009) and Assistance Professor in the Physics Department at the Lisbon Superior Institute of Engineering (2009-2023).

He has a degree (5-year degree) in Materials Science and Engineering, with a specialization in Polymeric Materials (Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT/UNL), 1997), PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from FCT/UNL (2004) and Habilitation in Materials Science and Engineering from NOVA University of Lisboa (2021).

He is a founding member and current secretary of the Portuguese Liquid Crystals Society (SPCL).

 

Main scientific interests: Surface treatments of materials; Mechanical properties; Nuclear magnetic resonance and rheo-NMR; polymeric materials; cellulosic materials; liquid crystals; liquid-crystalline polymers; liquid crystals electro-optical applications; liquid crystal sensors.
