PhD on the Study of New Packaging Materials based on Cellulose Derivatives, April 2004 at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT/UNL), in the field of Materials Science, speciality in Macromolecular Materials. Since April 2004, he is Assistant Professor at Materials Science Department (DCM) of FCT/UNL, and member of the scientific board of DCM. From 2008 to 2014 he was vice-director of the Materials Research Centre/Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodeling and Nanofabrication - CENIMAT/I3N, coordinator of the MSc in Materials Engineering and member of the executive board of the DCM. Editor of the journals “Journal of Composites and Biodegradable Polymers”, “International Journal of Chemoinformatics and Chemical Engineering” and Annals of Materials Science & Engineering. R&D activity focused on: (1) polymeric liquid crystals (and its biomedical applications). (2) the development and characterization of new biomaterials for Tissue Engineering based on Chitin/Chitosan or other polysaccharides. (3) the development of magnetic Nanoparticles for cancer theranostics. Hyperthermia.
