Nature uses effectively the properties of circular polarized light (CPL) for example in cuticles of certain types of beetles or in the vision of Stomatopods. Crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) when processed the right way upon drying self-assembles into photonic chiral nematic films that selectively reflect left-handed and transmit right-handed CPL. Our group focuses on the use of paper in microelectronic devices. With this work we show how to use CNC films and membranes in transistors and light sensors, exploiting their dielectric and photonic character.
Only three out of 30 posters were nominated for the podium in this Symposium. In the end the outstanding work of Paul Grey received the highest honors with a 1st place finish.
