(...) Overall, an outstanding unit with impressive scientific, technological and educational achievements.»
This recognition highlights i3N’s position as a leading research center in Portugal and Europe, consistently pushing the boundaries of innovation in nanotechnology and advanced materials.

Yesterday, at 6pm, at the Cupra City Garage in Lisbon, Professor Elvira Fortunato was once again recognised as one of Portugal's 50 Most Influential Women, in a distinction promoted by Executiva.pt.
In 10 editions of this initiative, this is the 10th time that Professor Elvira Fortunato has received the honourable distinction, which celebrates the talent, leadership and capacity for achievement of women who inspire and make a difference in Portugal.

The kick-off meeting of POEMS – the Portuguese Competence Centre in Semiconductors took place yesterday in Braga, marking the official start of this initiative. We are proud to share that i3N is part of the consortium composed by 16 partners, including leading research and academic institutions.
During the session, the partners presented the contributions they will bring to this four-year project, highlighting the collaborative effort behind POEMS.
POEMS, co-funded by FCT and the Chips Joint Undertaking, is part of a broader European network of Competence Centres. The initiative reinforces Europe’s ambition to lead globally in semiconductor training, research, development, and manufacturing.

SusMatEner is a Marie Curie Doctoral Network funded by the HORIZON EUROPE programme.
We offer 15 PhD positions in materials science, for projects starting in autumn 2025. CENIMAT|i3N is involved in the supervision of 5 PhD theses:
- PhD1: Hybrid highly conducting transparent perovskite-halide perovskite solar cells.
- PhD3: Stable and transparent metallic nanowire-based nanocomposites for thermal and solar energy applications.
- PhD5: Integrating criticality and circularity assessment into the Life Cycle Analysis used for developing sustainable Materials-by-Design for renewable energy.
- PhD11: Photonic nano-structuring for solar energy harvesting.
- PhD12: New heterostructures for self-powered UV photodetection and power electronic.

Professor Elvira Fortunato was elected as a member of the Materials Engineering Admission and Qualification Board, which is part of the National Bodies of the Order of Engineers.
The ceremony for the elected bodies for the 2025/2028 term took place on March 25th.

Professor Luis Pereira was elected Regional Member of the Materials Engineering College of the Order of Engineers.
The swearing-in ceremony for the elected bodies of the South Region for the 2025/2028 term took place yesterday and was chaired by Fernando de Almeida Santos, President of the Order of Engineers.
