We are proud to announce the approval of the Glaze Project, an ambitious, interdisciplinary initiative that bridges science, art history, and digital innovation. Led by Professor João Pedro Veiga as Principal Investigator, the project brings together the combined expertise of CENIMAT|i3N, VICARTE and NOVA LINCS at NOVA University and the HERCULES Laboratory at the University of Évora, in partnership with the prestigious Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Over the next three years, Glaze will investigate the history of Ottoman ceramics, with a focus on the vibrant colour transitions and advanced manufacturing techniques that defined the iconic Iznik tile tradition. Leveraging the renowned collection of the Gulbenkian Museum, the project will employ cutting-edge, non-invasive scientific techniques to study the material and chromatic composition of this ceramic tradition.
