Description

Pedro Maia Marques de Almeida (ORCID 0000-0001-7356-8455 and ResearcherID B-4356-2009), is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Mechanical Engineering Department – ISEL/IPL (https://www.isel.pt/docentes/pedro-lucio-maia-marques-almeida). He is a full member of the Soft and Biofunctional Materials Group (SBMG) of the Research Centre in Materials Science (CENIMAT/I3N) in Faculty of Science and Technology of New University of Lisbon (FCT/NOVA) (https://www.cenimat.fct.unl.pt/people/pedro-marques-de-almeida ). 

He an Habilitation and a PhD both in Materials Science and Engineering from NOVA School of Science and Technology, Portugal.

He is a member of the American Physical Society, the International Liquid Crystal Society and he is the Secretary of the Portuguese Liquid Crystal Society. 

His main research lines are Polymeric and Mesomorphic materials. Complex fluids. Solid State NMR, including MAS, Diffusion, MRI and Rheo-NMR. Liquid crystals, and liquid crystal applications. 

He has supervised 3 PhD students, and of 2 postdocs. He has participated in several research National and International projects, 2 of them (National) as Coordinator (2015: PTDC/FIS-NAN/0117/2014 “Microfluidics Liquid Crystal Based Bifuncional Bacterial Infeccion Sensor”; and 2010: PTDC/FIS/110132/2009 “New functional materials obtained from cellulosic micro and nano fibers”). 

He has published over 80 papers published at Journals of the ISI, some of which in very high impact factor journals such as Advanced Materials or PNAS. He has published three Patents and two book chapters. 

He is a reviewer for several Scientific Journals with high impact factor such as Advanced Materials and Advanced Functional Materials. 

He is involved as Scientific Secretary on the organization of the 2022 International Conference on Liquid Crystals that will be held in Lisbon (https://ilcc2022.org /).
